Sullivan discusses men’s soccer goals

The Augustana Observer sat down with men’s soccer captain Dom Sullivan to talk about the team’s season and goals.
1. Who do you think will be your toughest opponent this season and why?
“North Park and Wheaton are usually two pretty tough teams we play in conference. It’s usually pretty close with North Park. With Wheaton, we’ve been on the losing end the last few years, but I think we will play a good game against them this year.”
2. What are some team and personal goals you have for this season?
“As a team we hope to make the conference tournament and the NCAA (Division III) tournament too if we do well enough. As far as personal goals go, I hope to be an academic all-American and just do the best I can for my team.”
3. What is it like being a captain?
“It’s definitely difficult at times,  but everyone on our team gets along really well, so it’s not ever hard. I am the only captain right now, but our coach is picking one more. It is a challenge, but it’s something I really like doing.”
4. Can you take me through what a normal day of practice would look like?
“It depends on the day. If it’s a practice before a game it’s usually light. We do some technical work and play games to get in a competitive zone. If it’s not the day before a game, it’s pretty intense. We do a lot of possession drills to work on our ability to keep the ball and a lot of defensive and attacking drills.”
5. What has been your favorite memory from the soccer team so far?
“When we went to Trinidad and Tobago for our summer trip. It was a really cool experience to play soccer in another country and see how they live there. We played other high school aged teams and college aged teams from Trinidad and Tobago.”
6. What does being on the Augustana team mean to you?
“It definitely means a lot to me. Soccer is a big part of my life, and I’ve been playing since I was four. But to be a part of a team that gets along so well is really nice. My best friends are my teammates, so it’s really enjoyable to be a part of a team like that.”
7. What is one thing you wish the Augustana community knew about the men’s soccer team?
“For the people who don’t go to the games, I think they would really enjoy going. The people who I know who go to the games say they really enjoy it.”no way I would be able to run.”
