The Brunner Theatre Center is set to open in time for the new academic year according to college officials.
The college posted a progress update on their social media accounts last week with photos showing off the improvements. The project has been underway for about a year now.
According to Sam Schlouch, Director of Public Relations, the new space will provide a place for some “new and exciting things” as the year begins.
This includes a theater gala that will take place on the night of Oct. 13. Schlouch describes the event as a “nice community gathering” that will take place. He said invitations are being sent out this summer.
Schlouch also said that the college is in the process of planning the first season of productions. That production schedule will be announced later this summer.

Schlouch said that he is looking forward to seeing the new spaced used. He believes it will provide an opportunity to relieve Bergendoff which he said is “stressed to capacity.”
Renovations to the theatre, located on the second and third floor of the College Center began last year. The college center was closed for short periods of time throughout the process. Formerly a dinning center, the new space will provide a space for arts to continue to grow at Augustana, according to Schlouch.
Schlouch says while the Illinois budget situation and the college’s action on funding MAP grants for students has put future projects on hold, those projects could include renovations to Bergendoff as well as an expansion to the Hanson science building.
